🏌️ The Course
Metropolitan is one of those courses that doesn’t need to shout. From the first tee you’re met with immaculate presentation — pure couch fairways and large, fast bent-grass greens that are hand-mown right to the bunker edges. It’s the sort of conditioning that quietly raises your heartbeat before you’ve hit a shot. 

Strategically, Metro is Sandbelt golf in textbook form: angles matter, misses are punished selectively, and the bunkering is as much about where you play from as whether you find sand. Early holes set the tone with clear driving lines guarded by fairway traps (like the opening par 4 bending left around bunkers), and greens that reward the correct side of the fairway. 

As the round builds, the course leans harder into decision-making. The par 5s demand placement for the right approach windows — the 6th is a great example, where the ideal line flirts with serious left-side bunkering, and the green complex is heavily protected. 

The closing stretch is where Metropolitan earns its reputation. The 15th is widely considered the sternest par 4, asking for a committed tee shot to gain an angle into a diagonally set green guarded by deep sand.  Then the famed short 16th turns up the tactical dial: deep bunkers shape the dogleg and lay-up choices, with a tiny sloping green that makes “reckless brave” feel expensive. 

Overall, Metro is a high-calibre challenge: not overly long in a modern brute-force sense, but absolutely demanding on precision and nerve around the greens. That’s why it lands at a 4-star difficulty rating — it will stretch low handicappers, and give everyone else a solid but rewarding fight.
